USHG FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCE HOSTS RESEARCH WORKSHOP FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

Gulu - Uganda, June 17, 2024

Postgraduate Students Pose with Prof. Ronald James Odora after the Research Workshop

On Saturday, 15th June 2024, the Faculty of Management Science at the University of the Sacred Heart Gulu (USHG) organized a research workshop for its postgraduate students. The workshop, aimed at equipping students with the necessary skills to undertake their Special Projects. The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Ronald James Odora, the Coordinator for Research at USHG.
After completing their taught courses, postgraduate students at USHG are as a matter of policy required to undertake Special Projects in the form of research. These projects are a critical component of all USHG postgraduate programs, requiring students to explore and demonstrate their understanding of key concepts, theories, tools, and skills learned throughout their respective programs.

The ultimate goal of these projects is to address selected business, organizational, institutional, or community challenges by incorporating classroom knowledge and tools, as well as outside-of-school learning experiences. The workshop covered a range of topics including research design, data collection and analysis, and effective presentation techniques. Students were also given the opportunity to reflect on their project ideas and receive feedback from Prof. Odora and their peers.

This initiative underscores the USHG’s commitment to providing its students with practical, hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for real-world challenges. By engaging in these Special Projects, students not only deepen their understanding of their chosen fields but also contribute to solving pressing issues in their communities and beyond.
In his opening remarks at the Research Workshop, the Faculty Dean Mr. Robinson Otim emphasized the importance of these projects in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. "Postgraduate Special Projects are designed to challenge students to think critically and apply what they have learned in a meaningful way. It's about taking classroom knowledge and using it to make a real impact," he said.
The Faculty of Management Science continues to challenge and support its postgraduate students in their academic and professional journeys, ensuring they have the tools and guidance needed to succeed. The research workshop is just one of the many ways the faculty fosters a culture of research, innovation, and excellence at USHG.
