Training in Data Analysis

TRAINING IN DATA ANALYSIS USING MICROSOFT EXCEL AND SPSS (STATISTICAL PACKAGE for SOCIAL SCIENTISTS)

  1. INTRODUCTION

The University of Sacred Heart Gulu, as part of its Community Outreach Initiatives, shall be conducting Data Analysis Trainings using Microsoft Excel and SPSS in the months of June and July 2017.

  1. ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

The University of the Sacred Heart Gulu (USHG) is a new University accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education. It is located in Gulu Municipality, 3 kilometres away from Gulu town, in For God Parish, on airfield road next to St Joseph’s Cathedral Gulu

  1. DATA ANALYSIS TRAINING:

The University shall conduct two short courses in Data Analysis

5.1 Introduction to Data Analysis using Microsoft Excel

This is a short intensive training (3 days) that will introduce participants to the use of MS Excel for data analysis particularly how to organize and process data, and work with descriptive statistics. The topics to be covered will include the following:

  • Variables and values
  • Clustering of Values
  • Variability (Dispersion of data)
  • How variability moves jointly: correlation and regression
  • Testing differences between means: the basics (Z-test, T-test)

Dates of training: 19th – 21st June 2017

Fee: Ug sh. 60,000 (sixty thousand shillings only)

Participants: The training is suitable for individuals engaged in research, monitoring and evaluation who must have a basic statistical training and practicing knowledge of Ms Excel.

Facilitator: This training shall be facilitated by Dr Opiyo Stephen a Bioinformatics Research Scientist at Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio (USA) and a Data Scientist/Consultant at Patira Data Science. 5.2 Data Analysis using SPSS (2 weeks) at a fee of 300,000/= from 17th to 28th July 2017

This is a two weeks course that will introduce participants to the use of SPSS for data analysis particularly how to organize and process data, and work with descriptive statistics

Fee: Ug sh. 300,000 (three hundred thousand shillings only)

Participants: The training is suitable for individuals engaged in research, monitoring and evaluation who must have a basic and practicing knowledge of SPSS.

Facilitator: The training shall be facilitated by Dr. Odong Lapaka Thomas, Founder and Director of Data Insight Consults and a Lecturer of applied statistics, quantitative generics and bioinformatics at Makerere University.
