The University of the Sacred Heart Gulu (USHG) participated in the 25th Annual General Meeting of the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL), held on March 6, 2026, at Aga Khan University under the theme "Collaboration for Excellence."

USHG was represented by Ms. Florence Piloya, the Head of Library Services, and Ms. Papetra Atim Lanyero, a librarian. Their participation reaffirmed the University's commitment to strengthening library services as a key pillar for teaching, learning, research, and innovation.

The meeting brought together university library professionals and stakeholders to reflect on CUUL's growth, achievements, and future direction. Key highlights included CUUL's expanding membership, strengthened partnerships with the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and the Uganda Library and Information Association (ULIA).

The meeting also featured the launch of the African Journal of Library and Information Innovations (AJLII), an important platform for promoting research, knowledge sharing, and innovation in library and information services.

Key Discussions and Updates

Discussions at the AGM emphasized the need for continuous capacity building, improved digital access, open science, and stronger collaboration among university libraries. Participants also received updates on the upcoming 5th Annual Research Dissemination Conference, scheduled to take place in Kampala in October 2026 under the theme "Transforming Knowledge Ecosystems for Navigating the Digital Frontier."

Reflections from USHG Library Team

Reflecting on the experience, USHG's library team noted that the AGM provided valuable exposure to emerging trends in academic librarianship, digital resource management, open access publishing, institutional repositories, and collaborative approaches to improving library services. The engagement also created opportunities for networking and learning from other university libraries across Uganda.

  • Support the development of an institutional repository
  • Invest in continuous staff capacity building
